Dawie is a Director of Independent Trustees (Pty) Ltd and an admitted Attorney specialising in Insolvency Law.
He obtained the Diploma in Insolvency Law and Practice (“AIPSA”) in 1998 and now specialises in Insolvency Law. This entails taking control of the financial and business affairs as well as property of companies placed in liquidation. Taking control of the entire estate of an insolvent.

Dawie has extensive experience in attending to the daily administration of deceased and insolvent estates, advising creditors, more specifically financial institutions, of their rights and obligations regarding insolvent estates and advising creditors of the possibility of dividends paid to them from insolvent estates. Termination of employment contracts, drafting and entering into new employment contracts, consideration of existing agreements and whether cancelling or continuing with these agreements will be to the best interest of creditors. Analysing of companies’ financial statements, consulting with auditors on various aspects regarding the company’s financial affairs, preparing for and attending insolvency enquiries, cross-examination of witnesses at insolvency enquiries, advising clients on commercial disputes that arose prior or during the administration of insolvent estates and drafting of Liquidation and Distribution Accounts.

Dawie received the B Comm (Law) degree in 1993 and commenced his Articles with Hofmeyr Attorneys (now known as Hofmeyr Herbstein & Gihwala Inc) (“Hofmeyr”). Although he commenced his articles at Hofmeyr, Dawie made the decision to complete his second year’s articles under the direct supervision of Hans Klopper of Hans Klopper Inc after obtaining special permission from the Law Society. Reason being that Dawie held a keen interest in Insolvency Law and Hans Klopper Inc.’s practice was entirely based on insolvency work. Dawie subsequently completed his Articles with Hans Klopper Inc in 1998 and was admitted as an Attorney in 1999.

During the first year of his Articles at Hofmeyr, Dawie worked in the general litigation department where he attended to general litigation matters, i.e. Magistrate- and High Court litigation dealing mainly with third party matters and insurance related work, gained extensive experience preparing trial matters for the High Court, drafted pleadings, and negotiated settlement agreements.
